Get Ready

I have been part of school paper writings since high school. Being an editor-in-chief I’ve always dreaming to come up with the best school publication. When I entered college, another writing opportunity has come on my way. Taking a course like editing and translating, creative writing, and campus journalism help me to ameliorate my writing skills.

On my campus journalism class we were given three different official student newspapers. From these three newspapers we are going to differentiate and compare it according to its content and style.

Reminder I am just going to criticize these three newspapers without any discrimination. Am just I expressing my idea and opinion of what I had read

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Manila (PLM) school publication focuses more on the political events happening in our country. They provide efficient information to the news so it became substantial. One news was to long I think it may is shortened. I had found one news that was so hard to understand. I think the writer must elaborate or make some further explanation of what he was talking about. I had found this news entitled “Justice delayed is justice denied”. He has a good introduction as well as the last words. He relates one thing to a real life situation. The uses of words are simple enough to be understood by the reader.

The GUIDON is the official school publication of ateneo de manila university. I found many words that I don’t even understand. From this news you can imagine and see how an atenista think and express their ideas. They also wrote about the maguindanao massacre. They didn’t just focus on the events happening inside their campus they also wrote some news about the happenings in our country. Aside from that I can say that they hardly work out to come up with this kind of publication.

The VARSITARIANS is the official student’s publication of the University of Sto.Tomas. I can say that the writers of this publication are very audacious. They are brave to face any criticism. Especially this news entitled “religious, but mot moral” this writer fought with his school bravely by writing this kind of news. Another writer caught my attention this was Emil Karlo dela Cruz who wrote “Brother looking out for his brother”.
He has a great introduction. If you are going to read the first line you are going to put your cheek up with a pride. But suddenly when you turn you eyes to the second line you will feel embarrassment.

The three publications have a different style in writing their own news. There are different characteristics of writers. They face it’s fearlessly. Every person is unique in their own different way. Despite of this they just doing their jobs, the call of their profession.

I hope that the University of Makati is ready to come up with this kind of publication.
Am just wondering what title will it have??

AdEPT

AdEPT? Advance English Proficiency Training. Is this really helpful to our profession? Someone may say YES and others may say NO.
YES, because it will train our students to be more competent enough in delivering our second language. It will offer us supplementary training and learning. The said training will contribute to the progress of our students especially ENGLISH majors. It will enhance our skills when it comes to listening, speaking, writing and reading. It will also give us opportunity to work in a call center company. We II- A English are going to be a future English educators so therefore AdEPT will lead assistance in achieving our goal to be the best English teacher among the rest.

In contradict to that, someone may say NO. In my own opinion it is not timely because we English majors have a full load of 26 units. We have our major subject that we should focus on. I hope that they understand our situation as a student. They should offer that Training with the 4th year students so that when they graduated from the University they can speak the language confidently.
Another question on my mind was AdEPT is an elective subjects so we can conclude that the participants are not force to attend in the training session. And it’s not an accredited course and the grade will not appear in our transcript of record. Do we allow finishing this training? I don’t think so.

What is the main purpose of this program? Maybe we have our own opinion and idea to this issue. You may agree with me or you contradict this. One thing that I knew, AdEPT will help us in some matter despite of our hectic schedule.

Driving you Crazy

Driving you Crazy

What drives your life crazy? Your goal in life? Pressured with dead lines? You are striving hard in your work so that you can be promoted. You are doing well in your studies so that you can finish it with flying colors. You are doing these things to help your parents with their lifestyle today. And you also want to buy luxury things for yourself like cars, mansion and modern gadgets.

Is this your purpose in life? We always live with the expectation of others and it’s hard to fulfill those expectations. But do we have time for ourselves, friends, family and god. The greatest gift you can give to anyone else is your time. But how can you do it if you are busy achieving your goal in life and busy living with these material things. Relationship is what life is all about. We need to enjoy our life on earth because life is temporary only. These material things are not important especially when we enter the kingdom of god. God doesn’t expect us to become perfect as we expect it. Remember that nobody is perfect.
Don’t be hurry!! Enjoy life live it the fullest. Our life does not revolve only to the materials things that make us happy temporary. We were created for something much better. This is not our purpose in life. We should spend our time wisely; have time with god because spiritual relationship is better than material things because it will last forever.

When you love what you are doing no one has motivated you. Unlike achieving your goal in life you are motivated by your family. If you serve and live with god he will give you what you deserve. Not only serving god also serving his people.

The Miracle of Black Nazarene

I love watching T.V. Patrol World because of it news which is shared with the Filipino people. It helps me to be updated with the happenings in my surroundings. I had watched the portion of the coming feast of Black Nazarene this coming Saturday January 9, 2010. The Nazarene was located in Quiapo Manila.

Today the Nazarene will be display in the Quirino Grand Stands, Manila for the novena. Tomorrow morning the day of the feast, the Black Nazarene will be place in the “caroza” for the street procession. Only the body of the will be dispel and its will have a replica head. The real head will be remaining in the altar of the church.

The Nazarene is famously known because of its devotees. Last year, there were almost 3 million devotees who attended the street procession. The devotees walk barefoot, with shoes, sandals and anything on their feet. According to the devotees when they ask help to the Nazarene it will be granted. One female devotees was interviewed by Abs- cbn reporter according to Mrs. Guano the black Nazarene granted all her prayers and she also stated that she is ready to die for the famous Nazarene. The people do this kind of act because if their devotion and the miracle that the Nazarene gave to its devotees.

But what do you mean by miracle??? A supernatural happenings or an event that science cannot explain. In our biblical books there are lots of miracles like the stick turned to snake and the burning trees talking to mosses.
It is not bad to believe in a miracle or think beyond the reality. It’s only shown our too much faith in god. In the past few days were suffered from consecutive catastrophe. It is better to have an inspiration of what we are doing. We should not always defend in god and miracle. We should have the initiative to reach our goal. We should remind our self that we are who are responsible of what we are doing. We are the one who are choosing our path in life. Last we are the one who are making our own destiny. God is our inspirational and guide of what we are doing.

“We don’t see things as they are; we see them as we are”.

Together Again

It’s been a long time that I spend my time with J.C.B. It’s almost a month. I saw him outside the house chatting with some of his cousin. I really admire him but I was disappointed when he stops with his studies. We ate ice cream and spent time with each other until midnight. I really miss him and he treated me as he treated me before. By the way he knew my real feelings with him.

Today, we Filipino celebrated the Death of our national hero DR. JOSE RIZAL.

Media

The media have a great influence to one’s life. Some have a negative influence like pornography. Some have a positive influence like television with have something to learn. In the Philippines we have some organization who gives prestigious awards for those outstanding television programs that we must watched for. For example the Golden Dove awards, PMPC, Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster Sa Pilipinas at Anak TV. A few hours ago I watched Maalala Mo Kaya. This show is Story Anthology. I was so inspired every week with the story. The show that I watched was all about an Old Beggar and little children who left her home because of her terror mother. From the story I learned that we must our problem. The little children face a lot of struggle that I never been face in my life. I hope a lot of viewers were inspired with it.

Merry Christmas

I woke up early on the Christmas day. I took a bath and wore my new clothes excitedly. I looked gorgeous I mean handsome on that day. We had a lot of foods cake and ice cream was my favorite food of the day. I felt jealous because my niece and nephew had a lot of money or “aguinaldo”. I promised to myself that I will not ask for “aguinaldo” anymore. I went out of the house to look for an internet café but unfortunately I didn’t find any open shop maybe because it’s Christmas day. I saw a lot of people walking in the street some children hunting for their Ninang’s and Ninong’s in Christian religion you must have Ninang and Ninong. Some parents choose to have a lot of Ninang and Ninong for their newly born Child so that when Christmas come the parents will have a lot of income. This day was for children. I spent the rest of my day with my two cousins. We ate a lot of food. This day looked like a food festival.

Bisperas

Tomorrow is the day we are waiting for. I fitted my clothes and made some adjustment. I am very excited to wear it. I helped my mother to prepare the noche Buena. I cooked my specialty spaghetti.

Everyone was busy preparing food for their noche Buena. But how about the other, like the beggar and those people in the streets, how their celebrate their noche Buena? Do they have food to prepare? Christmas is the time of sharing. We need to share our blessing to those people in need.

I spent the whole day with my family. I also ate in my cousin house. I don’t forget to visit the church and to give thanks god for the blessings that I received these past few days. It is not about the food is about you family. To share the spirit of Christmas with them.

Lantern

I looked at my surroundings I saw a lot of lantern. It has a small and big size. Lantern symbolize the Christmas season. It hangs on the window of everyone’s house. Some were made by Japanese paper. Some were simple and some are fabulous. Some have Christmas lights and others don’t have.

Some house doesn’t have lantern and other Christmas decoration because they have different religion and beliefs. Some save money for daily expenditures instead of buying lantern. Today more Filipino is practical. They recycled materials to come up wit a beautiful Christmas décor, Beautiful as that lantern that is expensive. Some Filipino reuse and add some twist to the old lantern. They use creativity.

Carols, some children sing Christmas songs in exchange of “aguilnaldo” or money. Adults also do caroling sometimes with the use of guitar and drum. They impart the message of Christmas songs.

Lantern and Carol is a sign of Christmas and Filipino culture.

Christmas on the Way

Another day had past, I woke up late. I watched television and I’m thinking if I will go to the famous “Divisoria” or the mall of University of Makati also known as Market Market. I’ve decided to go in divisoria because the clothes there are in lowest price compare to the mall.

That day was full of walking and looking for the nice clothes that I will wear this coming Christmas. While I was walking on the street I’m thinking of the snatcher. In the Divisoria there is a lot of snatcher. They have many modus operandi. The rain felt down and there is lot of messy on the street. I can felt the mad on my feet. I went to a restaurant to eat my lunch and after that we continued to look for the best outfit this coming Christmas. I met a Chinese vendor who cannot speak English and Filipino. She just pointed out the price of my clothes with the used of calculator. On that time I realized the important of English language as an international language. After I bought all the things that I needed we walked maybe an hour because there are a lots of people and the traffic was too heavy. While I was standing on the sidewalk I saw some commotion. It was a street child holding soap, brush and water. The washing of feet cost two pesos per person. It was a good business because a lot of people there suffered from messy feet.

After a lot trip, I finally reached my house. It was a day full of memories. It has been a long time that I went to manila. I cleaned my self and went to my room and had a rest.

Pregnant

Last day was full of loneliness. Boredom was killing me. I had many things to do but I had decided to stay on my room. I always do this when I feel boring. I think of my future and my plans for family. I want to finish my study with flying colors and land on a good job. I will buy things that I want.

When the night was came. I watched television. I don’t felt any happiness or joy on that night. I went to the computer shop to make myself busy and a little bit happy. On my way to the internet café I saw a pregnant beggar. That time something made me cried. I could felt the tears falling down on my face. I thought she was not on her mind I mean that the beggar was crazy. She was talking on her baby while holding her tummy. I played Farmville but I cannot concentrate with it because the pregnant beggar was still on my mind.

After an hour I went home and for the second time around I saw again the pregnant beggar sleeping on the side walk. She doesn’t even mind the coldness of the night that might be dangerous to the health of the baby on her womb. I bought water and biscuit for the pregnant. I gave it to her and she said “salamat”. When I turned back and walk away I almost cry again. I realized that the pregnant beggar was on her mind.

In writing this experience, I’m just thinking if what kind of and Christmas that the pregnant beggar will have. What kind of life does the baby will have? I hope every Filipino will help each other whether it’s a small or big thing. For those wealthy and privilege family I think you should share your blessing for those who are unfortunate like the pregnant sleeping on the sidewalk.

Meeting Again

It’s a Sabbath day. I felt happy and fabulous on this day. I spent my day having an aero dance for almost two hours. I prepared my things for the night mass. When I went to the church I was so shocked because all the seats were taken. There’s a lot of people who at6tended the mass because it’s the 6th day of “misa de gallo” or also known as “simbang gabi”. On the ordinary mass, there are always seats that are available.

The gospel was all about the visits of Mama Mary to her cousin Elizabeth. After the mass, I met again my special friend. I always meet him on the mass every week. We talked for a while, sharing special happenings for the last past days. He asked me to join for a special event with his other cousin and friends in star city.

This person has been part of my life for almost three years. For three consecutive all souls day we spent our night in the garden of memories with some of his cousin.
I spent the rest of the night with his girl cousin Melanie. I ate my dinner in Melanie’s house. She treated me ice cream the all time favorite.

I have been closed to the family of Jaycee boy, Melanie and Jomah. I am looking forward for stronger and longer relationship with them.

L.O.V.E.

L.O.V.E… loves??? What is love? Maybe you heard and encountered this word before?
As if, you experienced this?
Every person in the world has its own definition of “love”. Love makes the world go around and it will drive you crazy. According to my friend Webster, love is affection; devoted as attachment to one of the opposite sex.

There are many kind of love according to a Filipino hero namely Emilio Aguinaldo. We have love for family, country and god. I already forget the others because I had read that article maybe 3 years before. But what is the most important love? Love for the country? It’s that what you called Nationalism? Maybe sometime in times of catastrophe. Love for the family? Why we have broken family? That’s what love for family means? Love for god? What kind of love? Love in times of needs? We pray because we want something?
What kind of love do you prefer most?

In some universities, you will always hear love for the opposite sex. This is the famous topics in the whole day for many college students.

By the way, what is the real purpose of love? Can we live without it?

For me, love is like a law. If there no love there is no peace and understanding in the world. Love can change the world.

The Past

What is the importance of your past? Can we take back the times that already past? There is no future if there is no past. I wish that life have it’s own past and forward so that in just one click we can go back to our past life and ameliorate it.

While am spending my time resting in my room my elementary and high school days come flashing back to me so I decided to open my box which has a lot of remembrance from my earlier life. It has a letter came from my friends and friends who sometime became enemies. Time will heal the wounds right? The box also consist of a valentine card came from a special friend, tickets from field trip and play, tissue napkin from some of restaurant that has been part of my happy days. It’s also has a plenty of pictures of different places and events with my classmate and friends.

Every time I open my box, I feel mix emotion sadness and happiness. Sadness because they are far away from me. We seldom meet each other. Happiness because they have been part of molding my personality. But we are far from our dreams. Our journey will take a lot of effort and sacrifices. Our race is not yet over. I hope that every one of us will become successful in the path we are taking.

I will not stop collecting things that will make me remember my past. I will collect whether it’s small or big. When I grow older than, as old as you grandparents, this box will help me to cherish the time that had past in my life.

Saying Goodbye

Its hard to sat goodbye to those people who has been part of your life. I met this girl maybe when I was in my high school years. She was the former girlfriend
of my Brother, because of misunderstanding they wanted to end their relationship. Sometimes I saw her in the church. That time I don't even know her, specially her family background or anything bout her.

A few years after I was given a chance to meet her again. She sent me a messege asking me to join her in the gym. She treated me in all the expenses. That was the time that i experienced the life of rich people, people who has given the chance to live in prosperity. I thought we were going to a simple and particular gym, but i was wrong because this is the gym for the wealthy people. The high-tech gadgets was there and we have our own personal trainer. At that time I realized that the society was divided into two the privilege and unprivileged. We went to an Italian Restaurant that's the time that i knew her a lot. I noticed that i bacame a reporter because i had a lot of question to ask brought by my curiosity. After thet conversation I knew that she is the cousin of Lara Quiganam our former Miss International 2005 and she was a Magna Cum Laude in University of Sto. Tomas in B.S. Tourism. She is working in the Philippines airlines.
I was so shocked because she live in a simple life.

Everything has come to its end. my friend need to go in Sydney Australia. I felt so sad when i heard that news. Maybe at this point in time, when im writing this blog she is on her way to the airport. I hopr she will go home early. I really adore this girl.

wind of Christmas

When i woke up i can smell the wind of Christmas. everybody is busing preparing themselves, because this is the first day of "Simbang Gabi". in your way to church you will see many Christmas decoration like, Christmas lantern. lights, and of course Santa clause hanging on the window. In the church you will see the "Belen" showing Joseph, Mary, and Jesus in the grass with the sheep. It show the simple life of our saviour. The church is full of decoration, the Christmas wreath composing of five candles the symbolizing the Advent season or season for preparing for the come of Jesus Christ. With this things you can really feel the Christmas Season.

The "Simbang Gabi" is part of the Filipino culture but what is the true reason why do Filipinos go to the Church early in the morning? because of their friends? girlfriends or boyfriends? they want to eat the famous "bibingka at Putong Bungbong" or they really wanted to complete the 9days of going to the church so that their wish will be come true?

In my own own opinion Filipino should not always think of themselves. The "Simbang Gabi" is a celebration to the Birth of Jesus Christ.

Special Day

The Month of February is very far. early in the morning I heard the conversation of my oldest brother and his daughter. The Topic is all about the J.S. Promenade Party.

What do you mean by J.S. Promenade? The Junior and Senior Promenade party is the passing or turn over of the responsibility to the junior students because the seniors are going to leave the Alma mater. This is the time when the junior are going to continue or even ameliorate of what seniors have done.

My niece are asking for a large amount of money so that she can spend it to make over, like make up, hair style and of course the fabulous gown. I had also experienced this kind of situation in life. I know that JS prom is Very important in high School life. It Will happen once or twice in your life so you need to grab the opportunity. For me we need to be practical, specially this days that we have been affected by consecutive catastrophe. We should spend our money in a right way.

Being practical is not being Kill Joy. We should think for tomorrow not only for today.
